Formula Electric and Hybrid 2008 |
The operation of the first prototype clearly showed that the tilting three-wheeled vehicle developed by MDRG is suited to the introduction of an electric propulsion system, because the heavy components (batteries) can be optimally shared between the two modules without making worse the handling characteristics. Moreover there is a lot of room to accommodate propulsion devices between the two rear wheels.
SAE International (Society of Automotive Engineers, USA) organizes a series of technical sports competitions for students, dedicated to the automotive world.
In Europe there are three events: Formula Student (UK), Formula Student Germany (Germany) and in Italy, Formula ATA (organized by the Automobile Technology http://www.ata.it/it/ formulaata). These events include competitions dedicated to innovative vehicles equipped with electric and hybrid propulsion, in Italy Formula Electric & Hybrid Italy has taken place since 2005.
The presence of this competition was a strong stimulus for the development of the electric version of the tilting three-wheeled vehicle.
